Ora Group Shares Ted Talks 'The Power of Passion and Perseverance’

“In the entrepreneurial world, it’s important to understand that passion and perseverance will take you to great places. It’s also important to understand that passion is something, that when combined with hard work, will lead you to great lengths of success,” says Obiora Shorinwa, managing director of Ora Group. In an interesting Ted Talks conference, Angela Lee Duckworth talks about the importance of this factor: passion and perseverance. She basically starts by mentioning that she took on a job as a math teacher in NY and she realized something after a while. She analyzed the difference between successful students and those that struggled.

Duckworth mentions, “Some of my smartest kids were not doing so well, and that got me thinking. The kinds of things you need to learn in seventh-grade math, sure, they’re hard: ratios, decimals, the area of a parallelogram. But these concepts are not impossible, and I was firmly convinced that every one of my students could learn the material if they worked hard and long enough. After several more years of teaching, I came to a much better understanding of students and learning from a motivational perspective. I left the classroom and started studying kids and adults in the psychological perspective in all kinds of super challenging settings. In every study, my question was: who is successful here and why?” We went to the national spelling bee and tried to predict which student would get far, and in all these different contexts, only one factor emerged: grit. Grit is passion and perseverance. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future day in and day out for years and working really hard to make that future your reality.”

At Ora Group, we found Angela Lee Duckworth’s speech to be quite motivational. In the marketing world, grit is exactly what you need to push you to succeed. “Many individuals give up because they fear the future. They fear they won’t make it. But that’s when grit will set you apart. It’ll help you develop your passion into making it a reality,” says Obiora Shorinwa of Ora Group. We instill this mindset into all individuals at our company and hope that everyone embodies grit, not just for their goals but as a lifestyle to hustle in everything you do.
